Type 1 diabetes

Feeding a Child With Diabetes: "Type 1 diabetes (insulin-dependent diabetes mellitus, or IDDM) is the most common form of diabetes seen in children, but it can occur at any age. Type 1 diabetes used to be called juvenile diabetes. It occurs when the pancreas loses the ability to produce enough insulin. People with type 1 diabetes must take daily injections of insulin to control their blood sugar levels."
